How to make Chilled Yogurt Cheese Cake

30

August

Selamat Hari Raya to all the Muslim friends out there.  This is a long holiday to go, so I bet some of you might be getting bored at home. This is what I plan to do for this holiday, as I promised my niece to make a Cheese Cake for her birthday.

Recipe from my friend, Lynn.

For base:

Suggested 8″ Round mould – Get the movable bottom

200g Marie / Digestive / Oreo biscuits (finely milled)

100 g melted Butter

- Combine base ingredients together and press firmly onto the base.Keep chilled.

For Yogurt Cheese :

*20g gelatin powder

*200ml peach syrup from the canned peaches

2 x 250 g Cream cheese at room temperature

* 160 g castor sugar

1 can of peaches(cut into small pieces)

2 x 150 g Original Yogurt

A) Double Boiled gelatine powder with peach syrup, keep stirring it to MAKE SURE all the gelatin powder is dissolved. Leave Cool well.

B) Beat cream cheese & castor sugar till fluffy.

C) Add in yogurt, then peaches. Mix well.

D) Add in A) into the mixture in C). mix well n pour into the biscuit base.Keep chilled to set mixture.

Let’s take a tour of my previous 1st Cake making experience. :p

I bought Digestive Biscuit, cost around RM7**.
Canned Peach – RM 5 – Keep the syrup and cut the peaches into small pieces.

  • Crashed the Digestive Biscuit, I use almost half a packet, and the other half I keep for next round. Just put the biscuit into a clean plastic, and crash it with a glass bottle or hard surface thing. No blender needed.

I bought ButterCup, but if you have other preferable brand should be ok. RM3.30

  • Took half packet of 250g butter , and put into a bowl.
  • Express melting way, put into Microwave for 1-2 mins

  • Mix well the cookies and butter, if its moisture enough it’s not necessary to pour in all the butter.
  • Flatten it into the tray * i’m using a spoon only.
  • Chilled it in the fridge. *Lower Tray*
  • The base is done :)

Before we begin the Cream Cheese, the very important task is the Gelatine!

I bought the Gelatine Powder for RM3 – 50g.

Some of my friend prefer the packed Gelatine, which is more expensive. :)

  • Stir the 20g Gelatin with the 200 ml Syrup and put it to the pot for Double Boil.
  • The pot i’m using are the double boil pot but if you don’t have this kind of pot you may use your ways
  • Keep stirring it, keep it liquid.
  • Leave cool while preparing the cream cheese.

Everyone recommend me to buy Philadelphia – Cream Cheese.  Seriously it taste good but it’s so expensive. RM9.90 per pack.

  • Leave the Cream Cheese on normal room temperature before the cheese making before you start the cake making
  • Press the cheese, see if its soft enough to beat.

  • Beat the Cream Cheese together with the Castor Sugar.
  • Taste it to your own preference sweetness, it’s not necessary to pour in all the Sugar.
  • Just beat with a hand whisk enough, no mixer needed.

I bought this Dutch Lady Original Yogurt. I bought the bigger packing, because it’s cheaper and I can save it for next round. RM7*

  • Mix in the 300g Yogurt and start beating until fluffy.
  • It’s getting more liquid after the yogurt, so its easier to beat now.

  • Mix in the small pieces of peaches
  • Mix in the boiled Gelatine
  • Stir well

  • Pour into the tray and ready to chill
  • I put into Freezer for 1st 30 mins, then only I transfer it to *lower tray* after it set.

  • The Chilled Yogurt Cheese Cake is set!

  • After 3 hours chilling inside the fridge, and it’s time to take it out!
  • I’m happy with the outcome but of course it’s not up to perfection.

Wanna have a slice of cheese cake?

Then make it your own! hahhaa..

This is the easiest cake I’ve tried and it’s presentable!

Total cost for this cake is roughly around RM40. However some of the ingredients can be keep for next round.

Hope you enjoy the cake making progress!

OldTown White Coffee, how good does it get?

22

August

Finally, it’s here.

I’ve been awaiting it to arrive Miri and it here last month.

OldTown White Coffee, are you familiar with this?

For coffee lover, a cup of white coffee… a very small cup which cost around RM4.50 is really blooody expensive.

But sitting in this nice renovations, I believe a lot of people are still willing to spend here.

Basically the renovations are just similar to any other OldTown concept.

Personally what I like about OldTown are mainly because of the choices of food are rarely to be found in Miri.  Such as Assam Laksa? Although it’s not the best but at least that’s the only “authentic” assam laksa available in Miri.

Disappointingly, whenever I mention of OldTown, a lot of friends will start commenting, “Service Poor la”, “Food S*cks”, “Expensive”, etc etc.  Definitely there’s a reason why people say so.

For instant, our order for HOT beverage, turn out to be “XdaPns”.

Do you know what does it stand for “XdaPns”… it means Tak Ada Air Panas!!! How could a coffee shop runs without hot water? The worst case is, she didn’t inform us immediately, we only get to know there’s no hot water after we asked the waitress why the service so slow!

Somehow I truly understand, it is a new toilet, some maintenance work still in progress. Perhaps the staff still need more time to adapt their ordering system.

I’ve chosen OldTown for my breakfast or brunch.  This offer only valid from Monday to Friday up to 11am.

Definitely, the meals provided are more affordable price as low as RM3.90. Tax are not included yet :)

RM3.90, you get a Nasi Lemak Biasa and a cup of  beverage up to your choice.

For RM4.90, then you can have toast and egg :)

Again , the egg yolk always came out to be broken , not in whole egg. I wonder why this happen.

Their toast are special, because its brown color :p
But it is very thin, i won’t feel full taking this.

Our beverage, Chocolote & Xi Mut Milk Tea.

I also tried the Beehoon set RM5.90.

It’s definitely also a good place for you to chill out, bring your tablet, ipad or whatever and start enjoy your day =)

883 BBQ Steamboat Buffet

15

August

Talk of Steamboat Buffet, I believe the best experience could be from the Taiwan. So far, none can beat down the Taiwanese Steamboat.  Somehow,  I believe 883 Steamboat are trying its best to give the best choice for people in Miri.  If not mistaken it was launched early this year, but I could finally grab a chance to try out few weeks ago. It’s never too late, because their business is always that overloaded. If you did not make a reservation, it’s hardly get table.

883  is located at Permyjaya, if you know where is the McDonald drive through, then you will see this bright-eyescatching- signboard along the road side. It is same row as McD.  We were there around 7pm but there’s alot of people earlier than me.

The buffet ingredients are all well prepared in the fridge. Grab up your own plates and start picking the ingredients that you like.

The seafood corner. This corner is super fast finish, you need to “watch” it from time to time.

I realize that the frequence they replenish the food are quite slow especially come to “Mussels” or “sotong”.

The “balls” corner, these are all the frozen meat balls, nuggets, dumplings… etc etc.. Please please please do not take the green dumplings.  It makes my soup turn into GREEN color.

The “MEAT” are really generous. It’s marinated into different sauces. You can have chicken, beef and lamb.

Now the “Vege” corner. Quite disappointing also, the vege , the mushrooms are very slow to restock too!

There comes the “dessert” corner, mix your own ice kacang.

It’s not an easy task to mix out a superb Ice Kacang..

Or you want some ice – cream? Free flow of nestle ice-cream .

How about the chocolate fondue?
Talk of this fondue, actually I’m a bit worry to consume. As what you can see, the big bowl of chocolate were left there unattend. Meaning, that flies or insects anytime can drop in. Second worry, the big bowl of chocolate would not finish in a night, are they going to recycle?  Hmm, that’s only my own worries…

So let’s begin with the Steamboat.

We were given 2 pot, 2 tables to fit in 8 person. I think 4 person per table is the most appropriate figure because you gonna use up a lot of space to put places, sauces and drinks.

You can boiled in the soup, either Chicken or Tomyam. Free flow of Soup.

Or most of us would prefer BBQ style, but try prevent the big wind which you could hardly control the stove.  The cockles, meat, mussels are prawns are best to eat after you grill it.

The total eating environment was in a mess, but that shows we really enjoy our time having fun in eating.

I believe it could be more enjoyable if we go during the weekdays.

883 BBQ Steamboat – Contact No: 014 688 8091.
Rate : RM25 per head.

Honestly, this BBQ steamboat concept has landed Miri ages ago.  Back then it was only available at Airy Cafe and Michael Steamboat. Somehow the wave of the steamboat has gone. Airy cafe has now turn into air-conditioned eating place, while Michael Steamboat is still surviving but nothing big improvement has been done although they only charge RM18 per head.

So, do remember to make a booking with them before you plan to go!
