Vegetarian Food in Miri

03

March

If it’s not the lost of Happy, I think I won’t have the chance to try out the Vegetarian Food in Miri.

Oh well, why does it relates to Happy the dog? Ya, previously I’ve blog about the missing dog, Xuer, whom is the dog owner swear if she could find back her beloved dog, she is willing to be 1 month Vegetarian. Ya, her wish is granted. She’s now already 2 weeks of Vegetarian!

Let’s get back to the topic, I’ve visited 2 Vegetarian Cafe in the last few days.

1. CGS Vegetarian Cafe , located at Faradale Garden Shop Lot (Near to Shabu Shabu)

There’s a lot of customers during the lunch break, we can’t even get a comfort seat but to squeeze among to stock piles. That is really too bad. But they have varieties of Vegetarian Food that you won’t get bored.

Vegetarian Chap Fan looks the same like the ordinary Economic Rice. RM4

And of course, you can’t miss out the Mushrooms.
They have full menus of mushrooms , and I ordered Butter Milk Mushroom. RM8.

2. Qing Xiang Vegetarian, located at Boulevard Commercial Centre (Opposite Family Pharmacy)

This is so near to my office, but this is the 1st time I step into it.
My first impression, the shop is too dark from outside, I always doubt to go in and I always say this is “Dark Shop”.

Since Xuer highly recommend us the “Salad Mushroom Rice” so I don’t mind to give it a try.
RM5.50. Yeap, I love mushrooms, i’m loving it.

Pris had the Nestum Mushroom, again its mushroom. Don’t expect meat okay?

Yen had Claypot Rice. Sorry for the blurry pics, i’m too greedy to finish my mushrooms.

Our drinks.

For a short comparison, I would slightly prefer Qing Xiang.
Maybe it’s less crowder compare to CGS. Somehow their menu is more organized and with pictorial.

Oh ya, I heard that Muslim Friends can try out at Vegetarian Cafe too. Is that true enough?

Hainam Chicken Rice – 9696 cafe

02

March

Alex is  a BIG FANS of Chicken Rice, and I believe MIRI has a lot of great Chicken Rice.

There’s a few outlet in Miri serving great taste of Chicken Rice, but to own preference, I think the one at 9696 are great enough to meet our standard.

9696 cafe is located at Pelita Commercial Centre,  the corner lot at the cross road.

Or if you are more familiar with Hot Cross Bun Bakery shop, it’s just opposite them.

Ah B Hainam Chicken Rice is the one we’re hunting for..

If we were not mistaken, Ah B was the one previously helping at  Seng Guan Cafe and the previous owner had moved to Sabah. So I think he did inherit his recipe and carry on the business by his own.

The price range were very reasonable with the great aroma of the rice, and the great portion of the chicken meat.

Chicken Thigh Rice for RM4 .

Chicken Breast Meat RM3.50

All the rice comes with a small bowl of soup, Chicken Feet + Peanut.

This is how the portion looks like.   Very reasonable price for RM3.50 only right? I told you….   and I *heart* the chilies so much!

Okay, out of topic a bit. Other than the chicken rice stall, the noodles were great too. I would highly recommend you to try out the Dumpling Soup from the noodle stall.

Memang Boleh!

Chicken Rice: Rm3.50
Dumplings: Rm3.50

Everything seems so reasonable eh!

You must try okay..

Pan Mee At Happiness Cafe

22

February

I don’t like noodles, but I heart Pan Mee.
I don’t like noodles, but I heart Maggie Mee.
You get what I’m talking here?

What I wanna say here is, actually there’s a lot of noodle type in the market, some are made of flour and some are wheat and even vege!

Basically, selections in Miri are very limited. For instance, Pan Mee, I could only name out 2 places which is consider GOOD.
1. Happiness Cafe at Boulevard
2. Hai Ma Cafe at Pelita

The one I had today, at Happiness Cafe located next to Eon Bank and Am Bank.

It’s always FULL house every morning, especially the weekends. There’s nothing much offering here, other than noodle still noodles. Errm, of course different type of noodle. So of course, their signature dish would be their mushroom pan mee. The classic type.

1 glass of Chinese Tea Peng and 2 bowl of Pan Mee and waited for 15-20 mins. Take it or leave it if you can’t wait. Cos a lot of people are still waiting for your seat!

Apa boleh buat, you want to eat or not?
If want, duduk diam diam and wait la. Don’t aji ajo! :(
But normally if they are not busy, they are actually quite fast!

Finally the noodle is here.
You know wat, their portion is really “si beh a lot!”
Believe me, I can’t finish it alone.

This is the dry pan mee.

It’s not consider as Special Pan Mee, but this are very classic type, and they don’t serve you the dried chili powder. I always go for the soupy type, cos I love adding up the chili sauce into it.

And now looking at this picture, I would say, since not so special, why so many people go there leh? I also puzzle how to answer you. Maybe you could help me to get the answers?

Sin Wan Delight Rojak & Cold Drinks

19

February

I feel quite sick today, maybe I’m lack of sleep, and my meals routine all mess up after going here and there one whole day. It’s 3pm, and that’s the best time for tea time. We suddenly recall of this place, Sin Wan Delight Rojak or the local Miri people call it Petronas Rojak. Why? Cos it’s located right beside Petronas Petrol Station near to Bintang Commercial Center, Miri. =)

I would say, it’s finally, at last, we manage to eat here. Alex and I have been trying to eat here for several times since December last year. They were close for renovation, which is about 1 month. Right after a few weeks of business, they are close for a few weeks again for chinese new year celebrations. OMG.  I think the owners purposely took this chance for vacation, or else with their business volume, its impossible for them to have a good rest.

But who are the one who suffer? The Customers.

I’m lucky, I manage to grab a table, and that’s right after someone stand up and i took the place. At first I thought the owner might wants to renovate into an aircond place. But from what I observe, they did not do much changes, even the tables are still the same. I really can’t understand, what’s so big construction that need to close for so long. Hmmm… but nevermind, they are re-open now. Hurray. This is really the voices from most of the Mirians. How do I know? Because the I Love Miri City admin is on duty la. :)

Alex is busy updating to the I Love Miri City page in facebook, and lots of people commented they miss the foods here and want to come over later.

This is actually something I recall of old school, something that you will always tempted to have it especially in a hot sunny day.  If you asked if this is one of the specialty in Miri, I could proudly say YES!

In Sarawak, we called this Chendol, but it’s slightly different than those in Melaka, cos we have different type of ABC Chendol selling at RM2.60 per bowl.

The one on the left,  normal chendol with milk or santan. Quite similar to the one in Melaka just that the taste of Gula Melaka is lesser.

The one I had is Special (right), what so special?

Cos it consist of 1ONE pc of Longan, Jagungs, The green balls should be Sago, Red Agar Agar , Black is Grass Jelly and add in red syrups and milk then it is call SPECIAL. Somehow I think chendol taste better.

Apart of Chendol, the most important menu would be the Rojak. Sarawak Rojak is made of fruits with the mixture with prawn paste.  Other than rojak, we also have 2 more specialties, which is Sotong Kangkong and Cucur Udang Mix. Both are dip with prawn paste too.

The generous amount of sauce and peanuts makes the food even greater! RM8 for the smallest portion.

Then this is cucur udang mix with Yam, Tauhu and Sweet Potatoes. This must be eaten when its still HOT. RM5 for smallest portion.

When the bills come, i expect it to be less than RM15 cos we ordered for the smallest portion for 2 person.  The price listed on the signboard are ranging from RM4.  Somehow the actual amount came out was RM18.20.

For me, its consider quite expensive. It’s just an afternoon tea for 2 person and its already cost RM18.20. But Alex says its reasonable cos the portion is acceptable. Nothing to complain, everything is hiking, as long as the food is delicious, all the consumers are willing to pay for it.

For those who has been waiting for their reopen, quickly go grab your seat now!

A simple , but meaningful Vday!

16

February

Not sure if everyone still in the mood of Love, it has been few days after the Valentines Celebration.
Its just another ordinary day for me and alex due to our tight working schedule, busy with the new house chores, and almost neglected on the Vday. To my own surprise, i did not request him to get me pressie this year, and I did not expect him to celebrate it grandly. In fact, I’m just hoping for a simple dinner and a relax moment. I mean , Stress Free moment.

Alex bring me to the my favourite shop, dessert master for an afternoon tea.  Don’t worry, they did not hike the price just for Vday.

I had sesame paste, He had melon “xi mi lu” and the prawn fritters.  It only cost us RM11.

But of course that’s not how we celebrated the Vday la.. Alex did try to look up for a few restaurant, but end up I still opt for not so grand way to celebrate the Vday with him.

We made a booking at Citrus which they have the Valentine Set Dinner for RM90 per couple. The price is consider very reasonable for the food it serve, and the environment it provide. Save RM100 compare to our initial plan. :)

Luckily we did made the booking, or else I would be ended up no seat. It is expected to be fully booked everywhere. And the funny thing is, the environment is so packed, even if i wanna say some mushy mushy words i also worry the guy next table might heard our conversation.

In case you need their number , Citrus Miri Phone Number : 085-430554

This is the first time I celebrate my Vday at Citrus.  It’s also been quite sometime since I last visited this place.  Looking at the menu, nothing much to complain for the price it offered.

1st, they serve us the Fruit Mocktail. Red = Love.

2nd, here comes the oxtail soup.  Hmm, not to my own preference but its edible.

And then… we have to wait and wait for the main course to be served. Probably they just want us to spent sometime chit chatting with the loves one. But I can see from everyone’s face, they are tired of waiting. :[

Finally, 8pm the main course were served.

I could foresee if they play Cooking Dash, for sure the waitress cannot meet their goal. It’s such a busy night, but there’s only 3 waitress on duty, which is include of Cashier.

I had the Mix Grill, oh I heart the Sausage.
Other than that, it’s consider average.

Alex had the Teriyaki Salmon.
The portion is consider generous, but I think he says the Salmon could be fresher.

8.30 pm dessert was served.

I love this plate of Ice Cream served with Strawberries. This my favourite among all the dish.

9pm.  Done Dinner.

Thank you Mr. Ling for the meal, it was a great meal. So in return, I tell him, I’m going to bring him for RELAX…

Hehe… What Kind of Relax?

*Evil Laugh*

Ya, I brought him to Thai Border. A heaven for all, includes men and women.

This is actually a reflexology center, where they provide Thai Massage service. I come here quite often, it runs by a few Philiphino. Reasonable price RM45 per hour, RM 65 for 1 1/2 hours. If you’re interested, do call them up for booking. Trust me, there’s no hanky panky things happened here. =)

Thai Massage Phone Number: 0168781096

I  guess you would never think of going for a massage on a V day right?  For me, it’s A simple, but meaningful Vday that I’ve spent with my love one.

Happy Valentines Day Everyone!

Pizza of Fortune?

12

February

An earlier celebration for Valentines? Or still in the mood for Chinese New Year.

Although the Valentines is just around the corner, but this has never been a special day for me. Somemore it falls on working day, I worry it would end up like any other “ordinary day”.  Alex and I plan to dine out, somehow, the packages offer are all “blood sucking”, not to say the roses price,  RM10 for 1 rose consider being kind to you already!

I think everyday would be my valentines as long as both the lovers could stay together happily, right or not?

Okay.. don’t talk about Valentines first, I’m still hoping to go out for romantic dinner with him =)

Today we went out to Pizza Hut Miri for lunch break. Initially I though of going there for the 3-5 tea break special, but I was told those offers are no longer valid.Okay, since no more offer, then opt for the new menus, which has been heavily broadcast over everywhere..

The RING of Fortune… or I call it Pizza of Fortune.

This is something like prosperity pizza, turning the pizza into the Gold Coin’s look, wait, that’s the tactic, not the real things happen!

As usual, Pizza Hut service in Miri is very slow and poor in everything.

1st,  2 creamy soup served.

Luckily, this time they are willing to give me the Cheese Powder! Hey.. They always cheat saying its out of stock but I’m seeing it around even though they say NO! Argh!

Super Happy with my soup.. I’m very hungry bebeh…

Then come the breadstick, but they serve garlic bread, that cut into 4. WTH!? No photos cos it will spoil the overall looks of my blog post! Hahaha..

Follow by the drinks, which is suppose to be 2 glass of “Revive” but ended up 1 sprite and 1 Pepsi…. I did not make special request oh!!

Nehmind…. It’s almost 4pm.. I’m veli hungry, where’s my PIZZA?!?!

I asked the waiter politely, and he replied me politely too ..”Tunggu ah….”

Finally Pizza is served. Well.. wat’s more to say, pictures shown are always for illustration purpose. I know… but at least make it looks more like a “GOLD COIN” la… Where got Fortune liao le?

It’s Okay la.. If I never try, I never know, although I always say no next time to Pizza Hut, but there’s always be a NEXT time. Why? Cos that’s the only PIZZA franchise in Miri other than the local brands. Arrgh I hate it!

Bah, don’t worry, although it looks bad, but I love the generosity of Cheese inside th pizza. The special thing about this pizza, the crunchiness is actually came from cornflakes! It smell nice too~

This aint gonna be my Valentines Lunch! Haha, will post up again for what I had on my Valentines.

Happy Weekend! <3

Siamese Secret Restaurant – Miri

19

September

It used to be one of the very secretive place for me, due to its dim light and dark environment. Siamese Secrets has been operating for a few years. However, I rarely give them a visit for what I know and learn that their food prices are slightly high. Maybe because they serve beers? Or maybe they sell a little bit of Thai food which is not so authentic as well?

Its just another day after work that 2 of us are hunting for food. Friends over facebook ever commented that they have the best Pizza and Best Fried Kuih Tiaw. Its pass tensed. I think I’ve tried their Pizza before, admit that it is special but I would still prefer Pizza Hut.

Prices for the drinks also a little bit pricey, but I think its okay since they provide Tv, Wifi and Aircond for us. :)

The internal ambience is good. But the odor is bad.

The seating areas seems too packed, due to the wooden chairs and tables were huge. I try to avoid sitting near to the toilet but still I can feel that the odor are strong. I wonder why do other customers still can survive with that smell.

Alex order the Tom Yum Goong with rice. If not mistaken it should be around RM16.
Since they name themselves Siamese Secret,he expect it would be something as nice as what he had in Thailand. The bowl came out to be very big but the ingredients is just a few spoonful. I could see the disappointment on his face, and on the eyes, the tears are dropping. Authentic doesn’t mean it must be over spicy, this is not what we really had in Thailand lor!

I got the Fried Kuih Tiaw with beef. RM 8 if not mistaken. :)

Ok, the beef is a LOT… Portion is fine for me, but the taste, HEY! who is the one who wrote it facebook saying that this is the best Kuih Tiaw in MIRI!? Don’t believe it… their standard probably drop.

It’s no longer a secret. I think this place could only be a place for a small gathering, *not a big one* since its very packed. Or a place for beer gardening. Else, I cant find a reason again for me to be here. Too much disappointment, and hoping for improvement. It’s time for Change!

But one good thing about Siamese Secrets, they operate from 3pm till 5am! You don’t worry you cant find food in the middle of the night!

After 3 Cafe & Little Banquet – Miri

19

September

It was out of a sudden, we notice a new eatery place blooming out in the middle of Miri Old Streets off Kingsway Road. However, I feel that the owner of this cafe seems to be extraordinary. For me, I don’t think the location is gonna be as strategic as they thought or maybe I am wrong.

Somehow this place used to be an “Open Air Karaoke” for the hawkers. Which it don’t even attract much of the people to go near this streets if its not because of the Magistrate offices. Its pretty amaze that After Three could rent down this “PUBLIC OWN” place and turn into such a beautiful cafe and restaurant. At least, this is some credit for the landscaping, it turns the “Old” street of Miri into a “New” one!

After 3 cafe is attach with Little Banquet. While After 3 is serving ala carte dish, from local economical food to western food, Little Banquet is open for booking only if you want to have a private function over there.  From what I could see, it roughly accommodate up to 10 tables including a small stage only. So that’s why it is call as Little Banquet.

So here I’m gonna do a review for After 3 since I haven’t been to Little Banquet. From what I understand, the origin of After 3 was started in Kuching, Sarawak. So this could be branded as Local Franchise. They have several branches over Sarawak. By the name itself, it could be quite attracting and easy to memorize. So its gonna be the talk of the City! Oh ya, they serve no pork. So Muslim friends, do feel free to give them a try.

I’ve tried their western food once in Bintulu, I swear I will never try that again. So this time, we go for Seafood fried rice.

Alex enjoy the fried rice. I think its nice.  Somehow, they mistaken the drinks for us.
He ordered Barley Peng and it turn out Horlick Peng. =.=|||

I had Fried Kuih Tiaw with Beef RM 6.50 and a glass of Honey Sea Coconut.
Taste good, only that the price and portion would be a bit out of ratio.
During our Second Visit, Alex want to try something new. He had this Chicken Chop with noodle. If not mistaken it cost about RM5.80.

The sauce taste like Thai Sauce but at least, this time the portion and the price ration does match!

As for me, oh, I fall in love with their Fried Rice. Hence I go for Yang Zhou Fried Rice. Absolutely nice!
See, I even emptied the plate! Omaigoat!

Out of 10. I would rate as below:
Food: 6 – Food is consider good for what I’ve tried
Drink: 7 – Drinks ok, so far no special drinks available.
Service: 6 – Everything seems new, need sometime to pick up. Wrong bills, wrong orders.
Price: 6 – With such environment, the price is reasonable. Yet they do have promotion items such as Kopi -O for RM1.
Environment : 7 – The aircond need to adjust, slightly hot in the afternoon at the front part.
Parking: 3  – I think this is the worst case. Where you need to park accross the road to get a good parking. Unless you go at night. And this place often face traffic jam during the peak hours.
Cleanliness: 6 – Everything seems transparent, except their kitchen. Somehow, overall environment is clean enough as it now.

The next to be reviewed will be The Little Banquet. Looking forward if there’s any occasion gonna be held here. Are you inviting me over?

So have you been to After 3 or Little Banquet? Do let me know how’s your point of view towards this cafe.
