Kent’s Garden – Miri

06

September

This is when again, I talk about good food.Although the work schedule has been quite pack, but out of the blue we found this little eatery opens in Miri.

A very fascinating concept, which is very fresh for Mirian.

I couldn’t figure out what style or concept that they are applying, not really like Balinese, not Vietnamese as well but somehow it does make us feel good and comfortable in the open spaces while enjoying the good food.

Kent’s Garden was previously known as Kent’s Kitchen which was located at Sibu – near to the bus terminal. Somehow, it wasn’t last long in Sibu due to certain factors i bet. Hmm, probably people in Sibu would still prefer for RM2 kampua rather than having those RM6 Penang Fried Kuih Tiaw.

Ive visited this place for 3 times in a month. It could be saying that I bring the rain to the shop during my each visit. But isn’t that rain stands for wealth in the chinese Feng Shui? No wonder their business is getting better and better even though they don’t even have a signboard here!

They don’t even bother to do much publicity, as they clearly understand good food and good service will immediately bring up lots of crowd. That’s the power of facebook and word of mouth!

From my personal review, I’m quite addicted to their juices and milkshake. Price are very reasonable ranging from RM3 to RM 6.50.

Secondly, their menu is quite limited, but good food come with a few choices is enough. If you are the lamb lover, please try out their lamb cube. During the weekend, they have special menu such as Lamb Shank. Some of my friend says, the lamb shank taste like Rendang!

Kent’s Garden is located at Kpg Pengkalan, Lutong, Miri.
If you can’t figure out where is that, maybe you could refer to the map below or visit their facebook.

Food & Tea, My Second Review

26

May

Finally I’ve officially tried Food & Tea Hong Kong Restaurant. The franchise in Miri was launched 2 weeks ago, however it is still packed everyday. At least I could finally write a proper review for them.

As I mentioned before, the built up area wasn’t big enough. Hence, during the peak hours we could hardly get a seat.

Desperately, eagerly, we finally got a table for 3 of us! Hurray. Thanks to the boss for helping us the ladies to reserve a table.

It took us sometime to look over the menu.  The green jumbo glass that I’m having is Jumbo Green Tea. Worth for the price, best thirst quencher of the day!

Meanwhile, Yen order Double-Boiled Apple with Red Dates Tea.
It looks much different from the menu.

Pris, she’s been tempting for the 2 balls that I posted in FB the day before. So of course she’s here for the glutinous ball in ginger soup.

Surprisingly, my Shanghai Style Vegetable Rice with Chicken Chop came first. I was really surprised, its totally different from the pictures.

Before I order, I’ve doubt it would  be too costly to have this RM10.90 per bowl. But now the answer is obvious, its overcharged for this dish compare to the portion served. Other than the price, the food are okay.

Yen says that the Macau Pork Chop Burger taste good, RM5.90 I think its worth.

I remember when I was in Macau, I did queue to buy the pork burger which was very popular in Macau. Since then, I swear i would not recommend anyone to eat that as its totally tasteless!  So no need to go Macau, you can get it here in Food & Tea.

Buttered Chicken Diced Rice. The picture shows good, the real dish looks even better. However, Pris says, the taste wasn’t that great!

This is the carrot cake, take away for Pris’s Ah Ma. RM 3.20.
Have to ask Ah Ma how does it taste lo..

Food Wise, need lots of improvement.
Drinks Wise, quite good.
Service & Attitude: Very friendly, but maybe they are busy, so some ladies over here look so stressed and fierce.
Environment: Hopefully they can expand bigger room.

Overall for this second review, everything is in my expectations.
Total expenses: RM46.55

Food & Tea, Hong Kong Style Fast Food Restaurant in Miri

25

May

I Love Miri.. Why I say so, its because Miri people are damn rich nowadays, they invest lots of new franchise in the city, and we being Mirians can try out so much brand new things. Yippie!

This is the Food & Tea Hong Kong Style Fast Food Restaurant’s franchise that available around Malaysia. I think the one that i’ve tried before was at Low Yat many many years ago. But now seems disappear already. Hmm.. anyway, that’s not the matter.  Food & Tea or  歡喜地茶餐廳 is located at Boulevard Commercial Centre. Its just in between MyStore and Infinity Night Club.

I tried to go there last week during my lunch break, but they were too busy, every table were fully occupied.  So today I went there with my bro, again to check out the new outlet. The shop location is good, but the build up space are a bit too small. They can only fit in for roughly 8-9 tables.

We just ordered some dessert, as its consider as afternoon tea.

I had the glutinous Ball with Dried Longan and Spicy Ginger Sweets.
Although it was not taste like what I expected, but I think the glutinous ball are great. Just a bit pricey hor ;)

Ah long have the Red Beans , Barley and Milk Sweets.
He says that he can do this at home, add on sweet milks, then pour in Red Beans and Barley.

Hahah…. that’s just a teaser la.

We enjoyed the environment, for chit chat wise, for online wise, everything seems fine.

A take away Smoked Ham and Cheese Sandwich for Muh Hwa.

Compare to the menu and the turn out, oh, sorry its too much difference.

I don’t know how it taste but it smells great la!

When the bill came out, total amounted RM14.65.  There’s 10% service charge. Before I went here, I heard lots of bad comments for them. But maybe I could say they are still new, just give them some room for improvement. Oh, hehe, why I’m so helping them? No la, to be square la, yet its run by my not-so-close uni friends.

Anyway, I’ll be back again for a second review.
Food & Tea, please be prepared!

A birthday blast at Nikko Japanese Restaurant

21

April

30 March 2010, Heidi turns 14. We celebrated her birthday earlier on the weekend as the actual days falls at the weekday. His dad treat the whole family to Nikko Japanese Restaurant, and as usual, I am invited as I’m their most favorite Aunt. >__<

Nikko

Nikko Japanese Restaurant is one of the premier Japanese Restaurant in Miri. In terms of food, service and environment, I think this is the only restaurant that pass the quality check.

Let’s indulge!

tamago sushi
This is the kid’s favorite. Tamago Sushi.

peas
The green peas, simple and nice, freshly boiled with few pinch of salts.

Something I found at Nikko which is slightly different from other Japanese restaurant. They serve Chili Powder on each table instead of Wasabi. While you get Wasabi on request.

california rolls
My sister and bro in law’s favorite, California Rolls.

The kids can’t live without Rice, Garlic Fried Rice for RM3.50. Not bad, it taste mouthful of Garrrrrrrrlic!

Japanese also have dumpling, but taste so-so only. I still prefer the Chinese one.

kanikama sushi
Kanikama Sushi

Beef Udon
My favorites Beef Udon!

Now come the fishes!
sardine fish
Sardine Fish, looks so sad.

Salmon
Hi, Salmon Fish!

OCtopus
Eerie, Baby Octopus!

MixFruits
Appetizer: Mix Fruits Plates.

We enjoyed the dinner, and the waitress were really busy serving us here and there. Although the bill came out would be slightly expensive but their services and food does worth for it.

How I wish I can celebrate my birthday at Nikko too >.<

Bistro de Nico

02

September

This is a post-Merdeka entry, How did you celebrate your Merdeka? Any special feeling? Did you wear black? Did you went Clubbing or Karaoke? Did you sing the national anthem?

Thank God that I found my companion during Merdeka. Nee was back to Miri so we went for a fine-dining at Bistro de Nico. This is my first visit, hence would love to give them a little review.

Buono Sera..
Good Evening in Italian..

For me, Bistro de Nico is kind of country western style, family run business which would feel warm and cozy dining here.

Let’s hop to its menu of Bistro de Nico.

The names listed in the menu aint something familiar to me. I’m not very fond for fine-dining. Somehow, I would love to give it a try, just to pamper myself once a blue moon. In their menu, there are quite a list of selections, but I do not dare to burst my wallet by trying something new. For secure,  I get myself a Chicken Breaded and Lasagna for Nee.

Tables and the Cocktail Bar

Customers enjoying their wine..

Dumping or Dumpling Festival?

28

May

Am I too late to  greet everyone “Happy Duan Wu Jie” - the rice dumpling festival. Its just another ordinary day for me.  My parents went to Africa, so I bet they don’t even remember today is a festival.

img_9916

Rice Dumpling – contains of pork, mushroom and peanuts.

I’ve been reminded by Alex that his mom is making rice dumplings few days ago. I was like so envy.. cos my mom had never made me a rice dumpling before. Ahak! Complaining. Heheh…

img_8609

And since today, I was dump alone, the cardio class was canceled without any notification, so I went home and pass by a roadside stall. It’s been quite sometime since my last visit to this Aunty. I can feel that she’s in good mood today cos she even greeted me “lao ban niang”. Waiseh…  So I must buy more from her so that she can go home earlier to celebrate the “duan wu jie” festival.

img_9905
She’s there making some “chee cheong fan”, I got it since its still hot. I’m sure it taste good!!

img_9908
It comes with some sweet sauce, ok, don’t judge from the outlook, it taste good actually!

img_9912
Aunty ask me if I want any dessert.

This purple colour soup is actually “Bubur Chacha”.  Consists of  Yam, Sago and Tapioca. Slrrrp!

img_9926

Last, and of course my dumpling meal, to celebrate my dumping- alone-at-home-festival.

Total cost : RM5.70;)

That’s how I celebrate my dumpling festival. How about you?

Omg! The bread is full of mold!

28

May

Have you ever seen this kind of bread? A bread that is fully covered by the fungus. Its awful.

It frequent happened at my house as most of my family members do not like to eat bread except me. So now you got the idea why I can keep myself so fit! Hahaha.

Wait a minute, how come my bread is “Black” in colour? Is that because I kept the bread too long, until it was fully covered by fungus like the above , only then I eat?

You look at this, gross!! Yuck!!
I must be kidding, it looks so ugly, disgusting, gross from the outlook, you still dare to eat? You still have the appetite to eat?

Seriously, Yes I do!
I spread on with some butter and milk, and that makes up my breadfast!

*See the fat girl is eating bread again! Duh!
There must be some good reason behind it. :)   This is not a normal loaf of bread.

This is a Bamboo Charcoal Bread. A healthy product. Very popular in Japan, Korea,  Taiwan and some say Singapore. It has been out in the market for quite sometime but only now I learn about this. I think I’m way too “out” huh?!

Helps to remove waste, strengthens bowel movement and digestion of food and promotes health liveliness.

True boh?

I feel lucky that I stay in Miri, at least I know at some places they sell half loaf of Bamboo Charcoal Bread for RM4.50 and I got the full loaf here in Miri for only RM3.60. ;) But you know la, nowadays, as long as you put the word Healthy, they can slightly increase the price as they like, and there are also consumers like me who willing to pay for it. Hmm.. everyone so health concern huh??!

It taste even great with my favorite Milo!
If you are new to this, do give it a try too.
Never judge something from it’s outlook!

Laksa with Guinness Stout

19

March

Bong and I commented that the Laksa is kind of “Spicy”. For those who dislike hot foods, they will surely say this laksa is “Bad”. But for us, we like it very much! Hot is not a problem, as long as Guinness stout is available.
