ApiWon Restaurant serving Cigarette Butt

15

March

A short introduction of this trip to KK.

I was leading a group of colleagues to KK for our target achievement trip.  Everything were paid by company, and the only thing we should do is sit down and enjoy the holiday.  There were a  total of 10 of us in a group taking Air Asia flight from Miri to KK for a 3 days 2 night trip.

Our group photos before heading to KK.

And we arrive at KK terminal 2.

I’ve rented a van that can accommodate 10 of us and of course a driver :)

So before the journey begins, let’s have show off the pocket money given by the company. Everyone were so happy :)

So basically, the trip were meant to be short but intensive. I’ve made all the research and asking around for HALAL food before the trip.  One of our colleague is Muslim, so I have to double confirm that place is edible by her. Hmm.. But the good thing, there’s a lot of “serve no pork” place in KK.

Before we proceed for the afternoon Kundasang tour, we need to fill in our stomach first.

So we chosen Apiwon Restoran which is located at Luyang for our lunch stop.

I chosen here because :

1. It’s edible.

2. Suitable for muslim.

3. It’s recommended by a friend of mine.

So here we come, for the beef noodle.

Found out some specialty in this shop, or should say in KK, they provide 1 utensil box for all the chopsticks and other necessities.

You just have to chose what you want to eat from the pictures.  There’s no other menu.

Quick and Simple.

Since there’s 10 of us, so the “tau ke nio” is very busy taking order one by one.

Beef Kuih Tiaw for Mr. Ling

Beef Bihun for Mrs. Ling. That’s me! :p
Beef slice and Beef Balls, great combinations!

Bestttt served with Hot Chili!

I really enjoy the food, the soup, the balls, the beef , the chilies…. not until….

Someone throw this out from his mouth and  say this thing very hard to chew …

Take a closer look, it’s a Cigarette Butt!!

No kidding,  it’s not suppose to be part of the ingredient, isn’t it?

It’s from this bowl of Beef Kuih Tiaw.

Alex totally lost his appetite, somemore he is on fire! Imagine, you keep chewing something in your mouth which you expect it should be edible, and it ended up to be a Cigarette butt??

Our driver, Mr Four Eye, with full of Tattoo, called the “tau keh nio”.

She’s nervous when we showed her the ciggie butt.  We didn’t made much noise at the shop, I don’t want to spoil their reputation. So we let her investigate and give us an explanation.

  • She turned back and told us it might be from the factory that produce the 冬菜 preserved vegetable.
  • She discount RM7.50 for a bowl of beef noodle.
  • She looked panic.

Ok now, by looking at her explanation, we definitely won’t be very satisfied, but it’s happened and it’s over. Somehow as a blogger, I think I still need to report out the truth here. At least when your next visit, you gonna be watch out for any special ingredients in your bowl. :D

This is how KK welcomed us, in such a special way, treating us a free cigarette butt! It’s still a nightmare for all of us. Luckily, the entire trip were smooth so it compensate back for what is bad. =)

p/s: No.. don’t try to sue me like what others did because I have all the supporting evidence and hopefully when people search on Apiwon I won’t be on the 1st page of Google Result. :p

Mulu World Heritage – Day 1: Moonmilk Cave

01

March

Previous Links:  Day 1 – Getting There

Destination : Moonmilk Walk
Duration : As advise 45 mins walk
Adventure :  1 (1-5 Ranking
)

Yeah, we’ve recharge our energy, dress up, gear up and ready to explore the National Park. The other 5 members were yet to arrive, so we chosen to go for a “simple” walk somewhere around the park. As advice by the officer, we could take up the Moonmilk Walk that only takes 45 mins.

The above statement were true if you really listen to his advice, for taking a 45 mins WALK. No tour guide needed. Entrance FREE.

Yeah! 1st destination in MULU. Go go go!

This is the only signboard we could see along the path. The signboard stated, Moonmilk Cave not Walk.  We did not give it a damn , since the officer told us, its just a 45 mins walk!

Pass by the river bank.  Boat are the main transport for the Penan Residence.

Its really nice to walk in the jungle covering by all the giant tree, its not hot, and the pathways are well maintain.

Trees were huge and we get to see  different kind of plants.

Worms & Leaves

Fruits & Mushrooms

The ball kind of worm

Save our earth!

We really enjoy the jungle walk, until we realize we were actually the only group of people on the same pathway. There’s no one else heading the same direction.  There’s no signboard along the way, but since the officer told us it’s only a 45 mins walk, we just proceed to our destination.

Wait a minute. What is our destination. Moonmilk Cave or Walk actually?

But it’s already a 45 mins walk, where is the cave? where is the sign?

Looking at the time is still early, so we thought maybe its just a few more minutes to reach.

And we saw this.

Lots of steps… uncountable steps.. but we still going Up Up Up!

The 2 and only male members were exhausted as well. Not to mention the girls and the 50++ Aunty with us.

Thing seems went wrong. Initially we decide to have a rest and make a return.

It’s been such a long and tough way walk, more than 45 mins walk, and more than 400 steps of climbing. Leon and Yen insist not to give up, so they further up to the staircase while we waiting at the rest stop. They turned back and inform us that we are near to the cave! Since we did not one to break down the groups in the jungle, hence we follow them to the cave.

It’s almost 4pm. We finally saw this signboard.

Moonmilk Cave!

We were too happy! Finally we reached our destination. We keep scolding, why the signage were so poor, even the Moonmilk Cave sign were tear off.  Somehow we were still daring enough to self explore the half closed cave. Thinking back, it’s still a nightmare to me.

Moonmilk cave is consider very small. As what we learn from the guide the day after, the cave have been closed for tourist visit. We were the only adventurous group that make it to this far. Most of the infrastructure in the cave has been vandalized. Luckily we have prepared our torch light earlier, so still managed to see some rock formation.

We are the Survivor? Yes!

Hey.. look! The signboard is back to normal.

And I even took a picture to show my victory reaching Moonmilk Cave!

This is actually the other ends of the cave.

The  adventure begins HERE!

As we got out from the other end of the cave  and all of us thought that the direction would lead us back to the park office. Everyone were so happy, as we thought we found a short cut, we don’t need to go through all the previous hundreds of staircase.  The sky is getting dark at 4.30pm. Rains were dropping  at the same time. So we did not stop but just continue the path in the jungle.

The path seems tougher this time. The staircase were built by wood,  covered with moses. The steps were slippery and fragile. It really made us have to be extra precautions going down the steps.

5.15 pm.

We finally reached a lower ground, and saw the sign of river.

Wait! The sign of river is still flowing on the same direction as what we saw earlier while entering the park. It means, we aint taking a U turn back but instead we are going further in the the jungle.  Things are so wrong now. We don’t know where are we. We could only continue the journey.

Everyone get tense up and worrying.

5.30 pm.

Saw the sign of a cave. Reading from the signboard, it’s WINDCAVE!
This is not in our plan,  we are supposed to be here on Day 2 by boat. It means that we’ve walked far from what we are supposed to go. Everyone seems panicked. Why we ended up in Wind cave? As what we’ve been told, moonmilk walk is only 45 mins but we’ve spent 3 and half hour in the jungle.

IMG_6287Again, Leon and Yen who has been to Mulu once told us the last time they come to Wind Cave were by boat. We assume there’s no short cut back to Park Office, unless we are going back again through our previous route, going up the wooden stair case, passing through the Moonmilk Cave and going down another 400 steps to reach the Park Office.

WIND CAVE - Photo Credit to http://prince.org

WIND CAVE - Photo Credit to http://prince.org

We can’t do anything right now.  We only know its getting dark,  and we think of to call Park Office for HELP. The mobile phone coverage were weak, we did several attempts only we managed to rang the office.

Sorry. There’s no more boat at this moment. “

This is the reply from the Park Office. They don’t care about our safety, and they advise us to walk back using the previous route where we got to here. We were really angry with their response. I believe if they are willing to help, they will manage to get us a boat.

5.45 PM

Without further delay, we left Wind Cave and take the return using the same path. This time, we did not stop for a rest or photo taking. The rain is getting heavier, and we start to worry our teammate might not be fit to walk back but we can’t think that much.

The 50 ++ years old aunty is still still tough. Although she says she might be slow, but infact she’s tougher than all of us!

7.15 Pm

We walked real fast this time. Non stop.  Some of the distance we even run. I tell myself, I need to be fast, because I want to buy the RM4 Coke. That will be my aim.

We made it!

Hahahaha, don’t worry, everything is alright , I’m still here blogging!
Well, the 1st thing was not buying the Coke, but we screw the security guard for being irresponsible. Since we registered at this National Park, they should have protect our security and they knew we have one elderly member in our group. We even complain that we made a rescue call, but no one seems to worry about us. Their reply is, “if really something happened, we will send our team over.” =.=!!!

Actually we were just throwing out our anger, but since everyone were safely arrive, back in 1 piece, we’re really tired to fight for the rights, but keep the energy for the next day!

The 5 other members who arrive in the afternoon were waiting for us eagerly at the hostel.

The morale of this trip. Better insist to get a tour guide if you are not familiar with the jungle. Anyway, it’s a unforgetable experience tho! I’m not recommending any of you to take up this cave, it’s really wasting time but hey, it’s adventurous!

Coming up next post, the legend of Wind Cave & Clear Water Cave.

KFC fish donut, no next time!

21

February

I swear, KFC is only good in it’s chicken. When it comes to seafood, its always quite disappointing. Dear Mr. Colonel, I think you better stick with the chickens.

I understand in this very competitive food industries, you need to bring something NEW to the market. And bear in mind, for the everything you did will be very high expectations from the consumers. Just like me!

My friend, William, was telling me that he want to have his chap goh meh dinner at KFC. I was like, HAR? Why? Okay, that’s because his family had celebrated earlier so he says he might want to try out the new Fish Donut.

Okay, to my curiosity, and my “tamjiak-ness” , we had our late dinner last night at KFC. Actually I don’t like to dine at KFC especially in Miri.

Reasons why I don’t like to dine in:
1. It’s not comfy
2. The floors and tables are very oily
3. Most of the old outlets, have some strange odor, I can’t stand it.
4. Aircond not cold. *Bintang Megamall* outlet.

Enough. But I will still eat KFC, cause I can’t deny, their chicken is really finger licking good! Mostly, I tapao-ed.

But last night we dine in.
This is what we ordered :

1 set of Fish Donuts Combo
2 piece of chicken
1 large coleslaw

Total: RM 25.65
And I did not realize of the 6% govt tax. Pain pain pain , eating fast food so expensive!

Okay. So why I badly criticize on the fish donuts.
Again.
1. You look at my combo, compare to diner plates, it took off the buns, and replace with the donuts, but I have to pay more.
2. The donuts are so pity small, it’s one off bite.
3. The donuts taste like ordinary fish nuggets.
4. If by ala carte, the donut cost RM 1.12 not inclusive of TAX

See..

Okay la. I’m “kiamsiap”. I admit.

I’m not a big KFC fans but I will still support for the next new menu. =) Looking forward !

Miri Mobile Phone Dealers Association

17

February

Happy Chap Goh Meh everyone! The great festive is over, its time to concentrate on work now. But before I could continue on with my work, of course I need to conclude the CNY post first.

As part of the mobile phone dealers in Miri, we were invited to the Chinese New Year dinner organize by the association on 13th Feb 2011. This is the first year i join this dinner, and I  hope they could do it even better next year.

Organized at Parkcity Everly Hotel, Miri. Pavillion Ballroom.

The cocktail party begins at 4.30pm. It’s so freakinggg HOT….! The guest  were so little at first, but around 5.30 there comes the crowd.

Apart of joining the Cocktail session, I’ve to take care of this little girl in Red. She’s so happy to see the swimming pool, and tell me she want to swim with that cheongsam! OMG …

The cocktail session was indeed simple, but hey, there comes the FREE FLOW OF BEERS! Nah, you see, these people are really generous when it comes to deal with BEERs!

Along the cocktail session, there’s also a few booth participate by dealers to promote some new product into the market.

And this is the one we’re doing.

Fav/ve Portage

A new brand in the market, dealing with mobile accessories.  If you want to know more, then get to know them from here.

Two cuttie promoters for the event.

The group photos for all, include the little entrepreneur :p

Amber with the Hotlink Lion Dance.

Meanwhile waiting for the dinner to start, all the guest may get around to know each other more.  It’s my pleasure to invite both the VIPs  from TenTen Telecommunications, Mr Vincent & Liang .

And some candid cam moments.

Me with my tickets, and my lucky numbers.

Finally, the dinner begins at 8pm. We were all very hungry and tired ………. next time please begin the dinner earlier..

Look at Mr. Ling’s eyes. He’s so lack of sleep eh!

Group photos with our company’s staffs. I do hope they enjoy the night although the food are really not so appetizing.

Mention about the food, I swear I would not recommend any of my friend to hold dinner at this hotel. The food are terrible and the service are even worst.

This is the 1st time I encounter the sharkfin soup tat doesn’t come with any shark fins and it’s left half bowl on the table. Proven, its really BAD. It’s okay, we should learn not to eat shark fins, and protect the sharks. Good excuse for them. =)

But how about the chopsticks?

I thought it’s suppose to be all the same matching colors of chopsticks, but.. I have 3 pairs of different colors in a row.

Okay la, I better stop criticize so much, or else I might get sue for telling the truth as well :p

There’s lots of program on going for the dinner. Speeches by the VIPs, Dance Performance and of course Lucky Draw. The Best thing of the dinner is, the amount of lucky draw gifts are huge.  The association managed to get a lot of sponsors from all the mobile distributors.  See, if next time someone invited you to this dinner, please remember to say YES.  Don’t miss a chance to win the great prizes.

Out of 4 tables, we had got 8 lucky draw prizes for that night. Not much, but hey, what else do you ask for more?

Although the food was quite disappointing, but overall we did enjoy the night. I’m just praying that next year it shouldn’t be ParkCity anymore.. =)

Chinese New Year visit by the YBs & Datuks

17

February

This is something that I wonder to blog or not to blog. To blog, because its something happening . Not to blog, because I worry you thought I’m a politician. No way!

Every festive season, I think it would be the busiest moment for the YBs and Datuks to get around with the public.  As usual almost every year, my family are honor to be visited by the YBs and Datuks.  Hmm, and that is also the moment I’ve turn into a maid, busy serving all the guest.  My mom would be busy preparing her specialty dish, Foochow Mee Sua which is the favourite of the Datuks.

A simple , but meaningful Vday!

16

February

Not sure if everyone still in the mood of Love, it has been few days after the Valentines Celebration.
Its just another ordinary day for me and alex due to our tight working schedule, busy with the new house chores, and almost neglected on the Vday. To my own surprise, i did not request him to get me pressie this year, and I did not expect him to celebrate it grandly. In fact, I’m just hoping for a simple dinner and a relax moment. I mean , Stress Free moment.

Alex bring me to the my favourite shop, dessert master for an afternoon tea.  Don’t worry, they did not hike the price just for Vday.

I had sesame paste, He had melon “xi mi lu” and the prawn fritters.  It only cost us RM11.

But of course that’s not how we celebrated the Vday la.. Alex did try to look up for a few restaurant, but end up I still opt for not so grand way to celebrate the Vday with him.

We made a booking at Citrus which they have the Valentine Set Dinner for RM90 per couple. The price is consider very reasonable for the food it serve, and the environment it provide. Save RM100 compare to our initial plan. :)

Luckily we did made the booking, or else I would be ended up no seat. It is expected to be fully booked everywhere. And the funny thing is, the environment is so packed, even if i wanna say some mushy mushy words i also worry the guy next table might heard our conversation.

In case you need their number , Citrus Miri Phone Number : 085-430554

This is the first time I celebrate my Vday at Citrus.  It’s also been quite sometime since I last visited this place.  Looking at the menu, nothing much to complain for the price it offered.

1st, they serve us the Fruit Mocktail. Red = Love.

2nd, here comes the oxtail soup.  Hmm, not to my own preference but its edible.

And then… we have to wait and wait for the main course to be served. Probably they just want us to spent sometime chit chatting with the loves one. But I can see from everyone’s face, they are tired of waiting. :[

Finally, 8pm the main course were served.

I could foresee if they play Cooking Dash, for sure the waitress cannot meet their goal. It’s such a busy night, but there’s only 3 waitress on duty, which is include of Cashier.

I had the Mix Grill, oh I heart the Sausage.
Other than that, it’s consider average.

Alex had the Teriyaki Salmon.
The portion is consider generous, but I think he says the Salmon could be fresher.

8.30 pm dessert was served.

I love this plate of Ice Cream served with Strawberries. This my favourite among all the dish.

9pm.  Done Dinner.

Thank you Mr. Ling for the meal, it was a great meal. So in return, I tell him, I’m going to bring him for RELAX…

Hehe… What Kind of Relax?

*Evil Laugh*

Ya, I brought him to Thai Border. A heaven for all, includes men and women.

This is actually a reflexology center, where they provide Thai Massage service. I come here quite often, it runs by a few Philiphino. Reasonable price RM45 per hour, RM 65 for 1 1/2 hours. If you’re interested, do call them up for booking. Trust me, there’s no hanky panky things happened here. =)

Thai Massage Phone Number: 0168781096

I  guess you would never think of going for a massage on a V day right?  For me, it’s A simple, but meaningful Vday that I’ve spent with my love one.

Happy Valentines Day Everyone!
