There are total of 52pictures that will be posted here, my eyes almost drop off choosing and editing it. I’ve make sure the sizes are not too big so that it won’t took you too long to load. Anyway, please take your time to enjoy my effort in covering this event. It’s really tiring, and I warn you, carrying a DSLR with a 300mm lens it killing me! Grrrrrrrrr…..
Are you ready???

12 July 2008 Saturday 1.30pm, 3 of us (Ami, Yen and I) are ready for Santubong Cultural Village. Courtesy to my dearest friend, AMI, given us the best hospitality throughout the days we’ve spent in Kuching.
Rainforest, We are coming!!!
Everyone seems so excited, and we pray very very hard that no rain is allow throughout the day. I think everyone is doing the same thing, that’s why it really turn to be a pleasant sunny day!

My ticket! Yooohoo!
It took us 45minutes to reach Santubong, somehow, due to the overwhelming responses for this big event, everyone are restricted to park their car only at the allocated parking area and you gotta take the shuttle service from the resort to the cultural village.
*Money sucking*
Why shall i need to pay again, since I’ve already paid RM90 for my ticket!!!!
The procedure of getting a shuttle is totally unclear, that passengers are quite blur of what to do next. We have to actually go and ask for a clearer information just incase we got the wrong info.

I met one of the performer who took the same shuttle service with us.
His name is JAMIL, australlian but is a MAT SALLEH.
* His BM can be much more better than us*

This is the main entrance to the event.
Hehe.. can see that most of the people are well prepared for the events.

Sarawak, tanah tumpah airku!

Well, the t-shirt itself is cute, but that young girl who serve me is even cute~!!

Finally, we’ve enter the cultural village.
A lot of first time of my life encountered.
This is the first time i join such an event, and first time I visit to Santubong!

New orang ulu long house

The Penan Hut

And i saw this, the main stage for the night event.
OMG. Its full of mud, and I start to worry, am I going to be in the mud also?

Where can i plug in?
There are several workshops run in the afternoon sessions. And we are just in time to catch this group of workshops from many voices of the electric guitar.

His name is Ian.
The tattoo around his body has caught my attention to take a photo with him.
He is a bit drunk i guess, but its nice to meet him tho..

A lot of people residing at the lake, for the evening view.
Its even better with a can of beer on hand.

Hey.. we are the Rockers!
Do we really looks like the rockers?

There’s a counter from LimKokWing’s student doing the art works on the spot.

Wing’s Tattoo pricing

Natasha is doing a free style henna tattoo on a ladies shoulder.

And i return for the second time and caught her doing the henna on the man’s arm.

It was supposed to be their last customer, but Natasha is kind enough to draw again for 3 of us.

The henna tattoo in process.

Finally it’s done!
Natasha aka YEN is very sweet, and I mistaken her as a Chinese.
She says I’m not, and show me her IC that she’s a malay. =.=

Nah! Time to show off my tattoo..
Actually I have to wait it dry before i can actually move my hand around without spoiling the henna…

Since there’s few more hours to go before the night event started, so we walk around to hunt for food. And I met this handsome tattoo man. I took a picture with him, to suit my Henna on my hand. Blerk!

We saw this place, its actually a restaurant.

Otak Otak is made of fish meat. Wrap with banana leaves and left it for BBQ. That is not a sarawak delicacies, but in RWMF you can actually get many many types of delicious food…

Heineken is the Official Beers for the event.

Of course, I will grab one too. But hey, that’s not mind, i just took it for photo purposes. Blerk!

XY chromosome
I met bongkersz.
Believe me, Bongkersz is very very easy to be found.
Almost everywhere!

The above, guess you know who are them. I saw them taking pictures with the Big Bottle of Heineken. Then I walk over and approach them. It’s great that i bump into the big bloggers, friendly enough and to my surprise Kenny Sia know who is Mary Ting. Rupa rupanya I glamour jugak! Kakaka… There’s another anonymous friend, IcyPrettyGoddess together, and I met PinkPau from Quaintly.Net … Thumbs up for the Lengluis…

So the evening event get started around 8pm.
We were sitting by the lake side when the event started with Sarawak Performers.
Somehow, we move over to the main stage to get a better view and get ourselves involves in the crowd!

Too bad, it was really jammed inside, we could only manage to get a sit at the very very back , which is not good for viewing pleasure, whats more for shooting angle!!!
We just get ourselves sit down first.. and did some camwhore, that’s what girls do when they are bored!

We *heart* our Henna…

Kekeke.. Scary or not?
But seriously, I’ve spent so much just for this event, don’t tell me I’m going home just with these few pictures of our camwhoring! So I darely walk over, and try to squueze in to a better viewing position. Never try Never know. I am just so lucky that I manage to get the best position which is just infront of the VIP viewing area. To my surprise there are people who have put on some mats on the ground, and I ask for permissions, they are kind enough to let me join in. So i called my 2 sisters to join me. Hurray, finally goolooloo can start shooting with 300mm lens!

I don’t even bother to go down to join the crowd. I rather stay on the best position that i grab and see the crowds waving down there. Oh ya, I just don’t wish to go home with full of mud! Kakaka…
The Performances

It does impressed me with their talents on their instrument.. at least it keeps the audience entertained for 45 minutes.
But the performances from Palestine is really killing me.

He’s trying to show off his talents, but sorry, I don’t know how to value your talents.

And this old lady from the same team, who does not perform much.

And obviously, the FAT one need more rest! GRRRRR!!!

Thanks god that the YAKANDE brings back to crowd!
At least the dancing Diva being so Sexcited is worth to see.

If you have a small one, better don’t take it out. Ok?

She’s being so excited when the BIG one is out.
*kakaka, non-relevant, just for a laugh*

Among all the other performances for the 2nd nite, I enjoy the performance of Hiroshi Motofuji, from Japan. At least other than seeing him playing the drums, he actually shouted along all his performances. Keep my eyes open. Hahaha..

Ya.. you the strongest man!

Sheldon Blackman was the last group for the night. I did not make it to the end as I thought I should go out earlier to catch the shuttle service before jammed by the crowd.
Conclusions

I am lucky I was there with my bunch of friends, at least its worth that i have good times with my friends even though the performances wasn’t as good as i wish.

Its kinda obvious of Boring-ness and lack of High-ness througout the nite. Even hot chicks don’t even bother to dance. =.=

Left to Right:
Yikkie who join us at later, fly purposely from MIRI for this event. Anyway, not a big deal for her as she’s working with AirAsia.
AMI who given us the best hospitality , the manager of MarryBrown Kuching and Bintulu. ![]()
Goolooloo aka Mary who runs Kokoberry and Nokia at Sibu.
Yen, cost planning engineer from Miri.
Although we left the event a few minutes earlier but we are still too late. The shuttle service are just damn f*cking lousy! I did not get for what i paid! The waiting queue for the shuttle service to get us back to the parking area are damnnnnn long!!
We are just too tired, so end up 4 of us choose to walk instead of waiting for the shuttle service. But don’t worry, we are not the only 4 who did that. Seems like quite a lot of people rather walk back then wasting their time waiting for the long queue. OMG you couldn’t imagine how eerie it was walking at Santubong in the midnite, and you coudn’t imagine how far it was by walking distance from the carpark to the cultural village! and You couldn’t imagine how heavy was my DSLR and the lenses around!!!
Kill me, its really tiring. How i wish someone stop by and give us a ride, but too bad we are just not that attractive enough! Sigh!!!! We walk for about 30-40 minutes just to reach the carpark.

That’s all for my rainforest experience. I am quite disappointed with the performances. With the increased ticket price charges, I am expecting more from them. But sorry, that’s all. You don’t get any door gift either, so better keep the wristband well.
If you ask me will I go again next year, I will say, If you sponsor me, then I’ll go. ![]()
If you ask me do I have fun there? I will say, the henna tattoo is the most fun part.
If you ask how do i find their facilities? I will say the mobile toilet was cool!
And what else you want to ask? Please leave your precious comment. Thank you!
That’s come to the end of my RWMF 2008 report.
To ArthAkal, guess you are much more happy after reading my post, at least you won’t feel that bad for not making it this year!
dd=.=bb
I honestly preferred Jazz Festival compared to RWMF.

Honestly, I almost killed myself during the weekend here in Miri…
I worked, drank, partied and smoked just to distract myself from drifting to kuching. And then on Sunday evening kan.. some friends pandai pandai called me up screaming on top of their lungs (obviously drunk or high) telling me that the event was awesome and they missed having me there. -_____-’
But I’m looking forward to better things in August so the gods of the rainforest forgive me for not attending this year.
I saw my legs and sandals .. ha ha ha. :p
for a first timer, it doesn’t really trigger my sanity to come back . but I will la.
I was a lil bit dissapointed actually
Wow, an excellent pictorial presentation of RWMF 2008.Heard that Sibu will have its own musical festival end of this year or next year and Jubilee Park is the tentative venue.Hey, is your dad Ting N.H?
those are great shots. especially the night at the rainforest. the performances pics are great!
Arth Akal. I dunno you commented at 5.16am and I went by yr blog to leave you a msg. Kakaka. Its not that bad for missing it la.. yr friends are just teasing you! haha.. So what is the better thing in the coming August? If its a great thing, I don’t wish to miss it too!
Cibol: O really? Which is yr sandal and leg ah?? I think we shall date together and go together in a group, at least make it more happening!
Philip: Thanks for yr compliments. Yes, TNH is my dad and currently he is in Sibu. Wanna meet him, get approval from me first. Kakaakaka…
(=’.'=) : Ya jane, thanks! Without compliments, there’s no encouragement to take better pictures in future. In fact, i sacrifice a lot in carrying big DSLR in such event, damn tiring!
oh that’s a hell lot of photos!! great photos mary, really good!! ehem, we keep bumping into each other yeah?
:P good exercise carrying that huge weapon around hehe..
there are many things to improve in order to make the festival better, such as the transportation. what a rip off rm5 per trip.. i never take any trip back from the venue to the car park, after seeing such long queue. i heard from friends the next day, they queued for 1.5 hour!! i walked 20 mins
let’s hope they do the best for next year.
ps: nice to see you again there… kekekekee! wish we had more time to sit down and chat
eh, you stood so far, yet could so clear shot of the performers!!! geng!
Oh,TNH is really your dad. How long will he be in Sibu? The last time I met him was about 4 years back when he held a photo exhibition in Kuching.
Bongkersz: I sit not stood. Thats the amazing of using 300mm lens! Ya. they should really do some improvement over the transport. All the way I walk back can hear people ranting over. haha
Philip: Err, not sure when he will be leaving, if you want to arrange a meet with him, i guess he will be happy to know tat.
